“Wilderness gave us knowledge. Wilderness made us human. We came from here. Perhaps that is why so many of us feel a strong bond to this land called Serengeti; it is the land of our youth.”

Habari, Unaendeleaje Leo?

Hello, how are you today?
I’m Leo and welcome to Safari by Leo.

I’m of the Jita tribe from Lake Victoria and I’m privileged to be one of the first woman end-to-end safari driver guides in East Africa. My husband Charles is from the Chagga tribe from the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro. He is our travel consultant specialist who is an avid traveller, hiker, cyclist and cultural tour guide. Together, we bring a deep understanding the rhythms of life in Northern Tanzania. We are your Northern Tanzania safari and cultural immersion tour experts.

From the shores of Lake Victoria where I was born to forests of Lake Tanganyika and across the vast Serengeti Plains. To the game lands of Tarangire, right through to Saadani National park on the shores of the Indian Ocean. From the heights of Mt Meru and the majestic Mt Kilimanjaro down to the wondrous hill stations of the Usambara Mountains. From the tropical plantations of Tanga to the white sand beaches Pangani.

Come. Let’s explore!

Your African Safari

  • We deliver the expected.

Our adventures include everything you expect when you imagine an East Africa Safari.

Close up encounters with our incredible wildlife. Long drives through our breath taking landscapes and romantic sundowners at remote safari lodges.

Over the years, we've had the privilege of working for some of the worlds best safari companies. So when it came to starting our adventures, we focused on the parts we know our customers truly value.

  • We then share the unexpected.

“I never knew of a morning in Africa when I woke up that I was not happy.” Ernest Hemingway

We believe this happiness comes from a deep connection to place and it’s people. From an understanding through sharing.

Being of this land, we’re able to take you through the paths less travelled. To safely navigate through places and in time and share with you a way of life unique to our land and our people.

We are specialists for the following parks and experiences:

Safari Parks

We specialise in multi-day driving and walking safaris for the following national park and reserves. We generally cover a combination of some or all major parks in the Northern circuit. These include Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Arusha National Parks.

We organise the accommodation based on your requirements and budget. These can range from tented camps through to luxury safari lodges.

We can also organise additional activities such as hot air balloons and walking safaris upon request.

We can cover some to all of these national Parks within 2 to 10 days. We’re happy to customise according to your needs.

Although we are a safari specialist, we also organise guided trekking groups to both Mt. Meru (allow 3 to 5 additional days) and Mt. Kilimanjaro (allow 5 to 7 additional days). Expeditions to the Usambara Mountains (allow 2 to 3 days additional days) and to Ol Doinyo Lengai (allow 1 to 3 days) can be included as part of a driving safari.

We’re able to provide this service through our partners in Moshi where we are based. The prices for the trekking adventures includes accommodation and food.

Cultural Tours

We feel there are a few towns and villages in Tanzania which are worth taking the time to explore. When you go beyond the frequently visited markets and curio-shops you will walk into a world of new experiences and rarely seen moments.

We specialise in guided food and cultural adventures to the Kilimanjaro Foot Hill tribes (allow 1 to 2 days). These are our people so you can expect a deep emersion into our ways and food.

We also provide bespoke adventures to Lake Natron Walking with the Maasai (allow 2 to 3 additional days) and Lake Eyasi walking with the Hadzabe (allow 1 to 2 additional days). We also recommend the town and village tours at Karatu. We assure you there’s no other place quite like this. These are our non-standard tours for those seeking something a little different.

“Why is it you can never hope to describe the emotion Africa creates? You are lifted. Out of whatever pit, unbound from whatever tie, released from whatever fear. You are lifted and you see it all from above.”
